This first "normal" IA week has gone by rapidly. Introduction to the class project, interest based grouping and just the normal way things go around in the IA has all been very interesting. In class we started reading "Good to Great" by Jim Collins, there is a quote that really stuck to me from the first chapter: "People are not your most important asset/ The right people are." He uses it in a business context, yet I think it can relate to any aspect of your life, especially in situations were there is teamwork. Like for example, you can have fifty friends, but you only really need a couple of true friends that are always there for you. Its not about quantity.
Another quote that stuck to me was "When you have disciplined people, you don't need hierarchy. Being in the IA I can tell that people are motivated for what we are doing. As students we have a say on what project we want to do and how we target problems. This new independence is something we hadn't really experience before, and it is great because it breaks the scheme of the typical class and helps us lead our learning. We are more motivated in what we are doing and this helps us be disciplined, because we are doing something we believe in. When everybody is disciplined, we don't need to be constantly told by a teacher to stay on task. This doesn't mean that we are not guided towards success, but we take a bigger role in making sure the things get done, through teamwork and collaboration, because after all we are only people, hopefully the RIGHT people.
