I miss you.
Its funny. Around this time about a year ago I was crying in a hospital staircase. A mid-summer-goodbye. And while I wish this was all a lie and life was as simple as meaningless blogs about my sunny summer, its not. People seem to be scared of sadness (at least I sort of am), like we are supposed to be happy all the time, and in this eternal pursuit of happiness we forget that contrast is key. Sad moments eventually lead to happy times and so on. I guess if your doing what you love with the people that you love, you'll find your place in this world. And it always ends, we cant get away with living forever, this ain't Twilight. But when your there in the moment of it all, it just doesn't matter anymore. In a society where you meet someone new everyday, it sometimes gets hard to remember the people who were actually always there for you all along. It's funny, not because crying-in-a-staircase-after-your-grandfather-just-died is funny, but because it'll one day be a happy memory, not the last days, but those true shining moments were it seemed like it would never end, were we felt safe, were we felt happy, and happy thoughts always make me laugh.
I miss you.

"Contrast is key." It's true, the sad times give texture to life. Though, as you mention, it's often hard to embrace that in the moment. Nice piece, Santiago.

My nephew Bill a Cotter shared this post. Your words bring comfort at a time of a great loss. My Dad, Bill's gramps, just passed 1 week ago. I have read and re-read your post that Bill shared. Beautiful thoughts, very heartwarming.
